Takumi allowed her to undress him, revealing the map of violence Reon had inscribed upon him. Vivid, purple bruises bloomed along his forearms, across his shins, over his shoulders and on his ribs, where he had blocked the Ceremonial Master’s strikes.

The sight made Rei’s heart ache with a fierce, protective tenderness. He had fought an impossible fight, just for time with her. “The first point of order,” she said, her tone now practical, “is an ice bath. It reduces the swelling and numbs the pain. It’s… unpleasant, but it works.”

Takumi almost laughed. He had been a fighter and an Oni enforcer for many years. These bruises were, at most, a medium hurt. He had endured far worse. But it wasn’t the nature of the remedy that struck him, it was the focused, caring seriousness as she assessed his injuries, her obvious devotion. This was new, it wasn’t the calculated seduction of a hostess or the defiant resilience of a captive. It was genuine tenderness.

He let her lead him to the bathroom, watching as she filled the tub with cold water and emptied the buckets of ice brought earlier by a silent attendant. He stepped into the water, the shock of the cold a bracing clarity. As he submerged himself, the frustration of Reon’s kiss, the anger at the bite mark hidden beneath her collar, began to recede, fading into the background noise of his mind. In its place was the quiet, steady presence of her care. She knelt beside the tub, her ruby hair falling around her shoulders, her black eyes full of a concern that felt more healing than any ice.

He studied her, the set of her jaw, the gentle determination in her hands as she ensured the icy water covered his sorest muscles. This devotion, this kindness, it was something he had never allowed himself to want, and now, he feared, it was something he no longer wanted to live without. The war for her was being fought on many fronts, but in this quiet hotel bathroom, a fragile peace was being forged, one bruise at a time.

The ice had done its work, leaving Takumi’s body numb and tingling, the sharpest edges of the pain filed away. As he stepped from the tub, Rei was there, holding out a plush hotel robe. He shrugged into it, the soft fabric a welcome contrast to the punishing cold. Without a word, he moved back into the living room, the deep pile of the carpet silencing his steps. He settled onto the low, wide sofa, arranging himself with a weary grace that still commanded the space.

“Stand there,” he directed, his voice low, pointing to a spot on the rug directly before him. Rei obeyed, her pulse beginning to race. She stood straight in the sharp-shouldered red suit, the corporate armor he had dressed her in. He was silent for a long moment, his intense eyes studying her. The appraisal gleamed in his gaze: the hostess he had found, the ambassador he had trained, the woman who was now, by her own volition, becoming so much more. Her skills and her defiance had grown in tandem, making her both a more valuable asset and a more unpredictable force.

Yet here she stood, obedient, not lowering her gaze or shrinking from his scrutiny, but also not speaking, awaiting his judgment, willingly. The powerful, unspoken knowledge that she had chosen to submit to him, to repent and seek his favor, was a potent drug. It cut through the lingering ache in his muscles and the jealousy in his veins more effectively than any ice bath.

“Kitsune,” he began, his tone conversational, yet layered with intent, “Will you submit and grant me a physical and personal favor? On my terms?” The phrasing was a deliberate echo, a callback to a private sushi restaurant in Sakura Avenues, a negotiation that felt like an eternity ago. It was the foundation of everything that had come after. Rei blinked, the memory flashing in her dark eyes before she gave a definitive nod.

A slow, genuine smile touched Takumi’s lips, “Then, will you grant me an evening solely devoted to my enjoyment. Granting my every wish?” Rei swallowed, the gravity of the promise settling over her. This was the heart of his reprimand, the price of her repentance. Not cruelty, but absolute, willing surrender. “I promise,” she said, her voice steady despite the tremor she felt inside, “to do my very best to please you entirely.”

Satisfaction, deep and warm, bloomed in Takumi’s chest. Reaching for the champagne bottle standing in its ice bucket beside the sofa, he poured two glasses, the bubbles rising in an effervescent rush. He held one out to her, but did not let go. “Undress for me,” he commanded, his voice a husky murmur, “Slowly. Only then will you have earned your champagne.”

Heat crept up Rei’s neck, but she held eye contact. This was the performance, the ritual. She began, her movements sensuous. The sharp red blazer came off first, pulled from her shoulders to pool on the floor. Then the buttons of the silk shirt, one by one, revealing the smooth plane of her stomach, the curve of her breasts. She let the shirt fall. While unzipping the tailored trousers, she turned slightly, sliding them down her hips and stepping out of them with grace, after which she continued unhurriedly with her lingerie until she finally stood completely naked before him.

Takumi’s breath caught. She was more beautiful than ever, the lines of her body a perfect, living sculpture that transcended his own memory and utterly erased the sterile, digital charm of the Eidolon construct. She was flushed and breathing heavily, her skin glowing in the soft light of the suite.

Rei drifted towards him, her movements fluid and confident, reaching for the champagne flute he still held. Her fingers brushed his as she took it, then she lifted it to her lips, drinking with a relish that was both celebration and cheekiness. Takumi watched, mesmerized, as the line of her throat moved with each swallow, as her breasts rose and fell with her breath, his gaze drifting lower to the perfect, ruby heart-shaped patch of hair at the junction of her thighs.
