“I was just asking … but I don’t really care.” Rei turned her back to him, carrying the dishes to the kitchen, her movements brisk and efficient. The subject closed.
Reon watched her, a faint, thoughtful smile on his lips. He didn’t press, he saw the lie for what it was, a defense mechanism. As she moved, the lantern light caught her vibrant hair and the determined line of her shoulders. He found himself cataloging her grace, her resilience, the frustrating, fascinating complexity of her.
Why her? he wondered, the mystery surfacing with unusual clarity. Why did this particular concubine, this woman born of fractured legacies and forged in the grit of Chochin Row, get under his skin? She was a project, a tool, a piece in the great Oni machine. Takumi’s obsession was understandable; she was beautiful and carried the key to his corporate ambition. Bjorn’s fascination was academic; she was a unique dataset.
But for him? It was something else. It was the fire in her defiance, the sharpness of her mind hidden beneath a hostess’s smile, the way she could be so vulnerable one moment and so fiercely guarded the next. Not to mention her impressive sexual fervor. She was a puzzle that kept changing its shape, a song with a melody he couldn’t quite predict, nor memorise. Teaching her, breaking her, elevating her – it was becoming more than a duty; it was becoming a personal and intriguing indulgence.
He remained seated, listening to the soft clatter of ceramics as she cleaned, content for now to simply observe the fascinating creature in his kitchen. Not long after, they went for the mountain stroll.
The cold, clean air of the mountain was a shock after the warmth of the house, a bracing clarity that filled Rei’s lungs. They walked in silence for a long while, following a winding path lit by small, moss-covered stone lanterns that cast soft pools of light on the gravel. The last vestiges of sunset bled through the black pine branches, staining the sky in deep violets and bruised oranges. The only sounds were the crunch of their footsteps and the distant, lonely cry of a bird. Rei breathed in the scent of pine, cold stone and damp earth, her hands buried deep in her coat pockets. The revelations of her family history still weighed heavily on her, but the vast, silent landscape seemed to absorb it, making it feel more manageable.
“The clothes you chose for me,” Reon said, his voice cutting smoothly through the quiet, “The linen pants, the embroidered shirt. It was a good choice. A bold choice, but not garish. You have an instinct for fashion.” Rei glanced at him, his profile defined against the darkening sky. “An instinct I shouldn’t have indulged in…”, she replied, her tone wry, “Playing model for a day nearly got Takumi into serious trouble.”
“The act was careless,” he conceded, his hands clenching into fists behind his back at the mention of Takumi, “But your sense of style is evident. I spent years in Seoul surrounded by the best stylists and designers. I know the difference between someone who sees clothes and someone who understands them. You have the latter.” She dared a small, teasing smile, “And you walked off the catwalk and into a shrine. It’s quite a career change, but you still master both diciplines…”
He chuckled, the sound warm in the cool air, “Both require performance, both demand control of the body and the image one projects. The runway is just a more… commercial form of ritual.”

The path opened onto a rocky outcrop overlooking a vast, dark valley. They stopped, side-by-side, watching the stars begin to prick the deep blue canvas above. The silence between them was different now, charged with the shared understanding of his past and her potential.
After a moment, Rei ventured cautiously, “This shrine… it feels like a separate universe. But you’re not bound to it, are you?” Reon didn’t look at her, his gaze fixed on the horizon, “A Ceremonial Master is a teacher first and foremost. My duty is to pass on the Iron Oni Fist to any deserving members, wherever they may be. I’m required to spend a total of six months a year in Oslo, but the rest… is discretionary.” He finally turned his head, his blue eyes catching the lantern lights, “Without a compelling purpose elsewhere, life here is convenient. It suits me.”
“Purpose elsewhere?” Rei repeated, her voice a question, though barely a whisper. A slow, knowing smile spread across his face. “I’m becoming increasingly inclined to travel,” he murmured, his gaze intense, “A certain concubine shows remarkable prospect. It would be a shame to let her development stall due to geographical inconvenience. Her education requires a… personal touch.” A shiver ran down Rei’s spine.
This was Oni flirting, direct and simple, and it was dangerously effective. Attempting to curb the heat rising in her, she thought of Takumi’s bruises, but out here, under the immense, indifferent sky, it felt futile. Refusing Reon, fighting the instinctual physical pull between them, wouldn’t protect her. It would only make the eventual ordered surrender more painful. She met his gaze, allowing the chemistry she felt to surface.
“A personal touch?” she echoed, her voice soft, “I suppose some lessons can’t be taught from a distance.” His smile deepened, a flash of white in the twilight, “Quite right.” He didn’t touch her, but the space between them seemed to vanish. The attraction hummed in the air, as tangible as the mountain chill. She had decided. Futile resistance was a gamble she couldn’t afford. If this was the path, she would walk it with her eyes open and perhaps find a way to steer its course.
“It’s getting colder,” he said after a long, charged moment, “We should head back.” Walking back to the traditional house, they shared a silence more intimate than the first. The stone lanterns guided them home, their light feeling like a private procession. They crossed the wooden bridge, the chasm below a dark maw, and stepped back into the warmth of his home. Inside, he slid the door closed, shutting out the vastness of the night. The main room was bathed in the soft glow of the paper lamps, the tatami mats silent underfoot. He turned to her, the casualness of the path gone, replaced by a focused intensity.
Without a word, he led her by the waist not back to the main living area, but toward the sliding door to his bedroom. He opened it and revealed his low, wide platform bed with its dark duvet and the wide window looking out onto the star-dusted mountains. As he turned to face her fully, his expression was unreadable. Rei’s heart hammered against her ribs, but she stayed in place.
She felt the attraction, potent and undeniable, remembered the feel of his body against hers in the kitchen, the warmth of his lips. The anger over Takumi was still there, a dull ember, but it was no match for the practical realization that had settled in her during their walk. Fighting this was pointless. Surviving it, and perhaps even using it, was the only way forward. Rei met his smoldering gaze openly, it wasn’t submission, it was an acknowledgment of the pull, of the power he held, and of her own decision to step onto this new battlefield.
Reon’s hand closed around hers, not with a demand, but with a silent, guiding certainty. He led her across the room to the foot of the wide bed. The dark duvet was smooth, the view from the window a breathtaking expanse of stars and ink-black mountains. At the edge of the bed, he turned to face her. The playful, conversational man from the mountain path was gone. In his place was the Ceremonial Master, his blue eyes luminous and assessing in the lamplight.
He didn’t speak, simply began to undress her, his movements deliberate, almost reverent. Each button of her shirt, each slide of fabric, was a slow unveiling. Reon was studying her, cataloging every curve, every line of muscle, every faint scar, as if committing her perfect form to memory. The intensity of his gaze was a physical touch, almost more intimate than his hands. Rei stood perfectly still, her breath a shallow rhythm in her chest. Although she didn’t shy away, she didn’t actively participate either. She was a landscape he was exploring, and she allowed the survey. When she was finally bare before him, he stepped back, his eyes roaming her from head to toe with a hunger that was both intellectual and carnal.
“You’re maddeningly beautiful,” he murmured, the words a simple statement of fact, “A body built for pleasure and punishment in equal measure.” He finally shed his own clothes with an efficient grace, revealing the powerful, sculpted physique of a master martial artist. Then he guided her firmly down onto the cool duvet.
In contrast to the violent, claiming of the hot spring, he was agonizingly slow. He began with his mouth, tasting the skin of her throat, the slope of her shoulder, the valley between her breasts. His tongue was a brand of fire, tracing paths of sensation that made her shiver. He was reading her, feeling the way her muscles tensed and released, listening to the hitches in her breath.
“Does this please you, Kitsu?” he whispered against her stomach, his hands splayed on her hips, holding her in place. His voice was a low thrum that vibrated through her. She swallowed, the truth a surrender in itself, “Yes Reon.”
“Tell me what you want,” he commanded, his mouth moving lower, his breath hot on her inner thigh. The permission, wrapped in a command, unlocked something. The strategic resolve to endure melted under the direct heat of his question.
“Your touch,” she breathed, her hands tangling in the duvet, “Your tongue.” He chuckled, a dark, pleased sound, and gave her exactly what she asked for, with a skill that was devastating. He brought her to the edge once, twice, with his mouth alone, each time pulling back just as she teetered, leaving her trembling and gasping.
Only after bringing her close a third time, did he shift, his body covering hers, the hard length of him pressing against her stomach. He braced himself above her, his arms caging her head, his gaze pinning her to the spot. The playful exploration was over. The dominant need she’d sensed in him all evening surged to the surface, a palpable force.
“And now?” he asked, his voice rough with restraint, “What does my Kitsu want now?” Her body was alight, every nerve screaming. The defiance was gone, burned away by the pleasure he’d orchestrated. There was only need, honest and simple. She met his blazing eyes, her own dark with desire.
“I want your cock, Reon,” she said, the word a ragged exhale, “I want you to fuck me.” A feral satisfaction flashed across his face. He positioned himself, his grip on her hips tightening, holding her immobile as he sheathed himself inside her in one deep, forceful thrust. The air left her lungs in a choked cry, a mix of shock and overwhelming sensation.
He didn’t start a rhythm immediately. He stayed buried to the hilt, letting her feel every inch of him, his eyes locked on hers. “You feel that, Kitsu?” he growled, his hips giving a minute, possessive grind, “This is what you asked for.”
Then he began to move. It was not gentle, it was powerful, relentless, a physical manifestation of his control and his hunger. He set a punishing pace, each thrust driving the breath from her, each withdrawal a sweet, aching torment. He held her firmly in place, a captive to his rhythm, his strength absolute.
“You take me so well,” he rasped, leaning down to capture her mouth in a searing kiss, stealing her moans. He broke away, his lips trailing to her ear, “Your body was made for this, for me.” He punctuated the words with a particularly deep thrust that made her arch off the bed, “Tell me Kitsu, let me hear how much you want me.”
In the throes of it, with pleasure coiling tight in her belly, the truth was the only thing left. “I want it,” she gasped, her nails digging into the hard muscle of his back, “I want you … Reon … please … don’t stop.”
He groaned, the sound one of pure, victorious possession. “Good concubine,” he murmured against her skin, his pace becoming even more fervent, driving them both toward the inevitable, shattering edge.
In that star-lit room, high in the Norwegian mountains, Rei surrendered completely, letting the sensations sweep her away, even as a distant, lucid part of her mind stored the memory of Takumi’s bruised, beloved face.
